Long Ago:

What changes over time?

 

In the Long Ago project your child will learn about their history and how they have changed from when they were babies. They will learn about their family history and heritage and find out what life was like when their grandparents were children. They will learn about what it was like to go to school in the past and how everyday objects, such as clothes, toys and vehicles have changed.

Supporting your child at home

  • Look at photographs of the children as babies and discuss how they have grown and changed.
  • Look at family photographs so the children can see family members when they were children.
  • Talk about what your life was like when you were a child.
  • Share and discuss the Did you know? resource.

Week 1:

World - Past and present 

Begin to spot similarities and differences between pictures of the past and the modern day.

The past only includes things that have already taken place.

Nursery rhymes are songs that have been sung to children for hundred's of years.

To understand objects from the past can look different to objects today.

World - Understanding the world

Physical development

Recognise and discuss how they have changed from when they were babies.

People change as they grow and have changed since they were babies, both in their appearance and what they are able to do.

People grow from being babies to adults. As people grow older, they look different and can do different things.

 

Lullabies

In this lesson children will:

Sing well-known songs and nursery rhymes in a group or on their own, increasingly matching the pitch and following the melody.

By the end of this lesson children should know:

Lullabies are songs that adults sing to babies to help them get to sleep.

Skills and knowledge to develop

The past is made of events that have already happened.

Memories are things we remember from the past.

Your history is all the events that have happened in your life.

A timeline shows the order in which events happened.

Key vocabulary: memory, remember, baby, toddler, adult, grow, history

PSED - Building relationships lesson

In this lesson children will:

Build constructive and respectful relationships and talk about the special people in their lives and why they are important.

By the end of this lesson children should know:

All families are special and different. They are different sizes and have different family members.

Special people include anyone important in a person's life. It could be parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends or teachers.
