Gratitude Through Prayer

We are learning this week to understand how Christians can show gratitude through prayer.

Look at photo of hands together. What do they think of when they see this? Discuss your answers.

Watch the video together.

Then ask them to think of three things that they have learned about prayer.

Children to write their own short prayer. What would they write in their prayer?

Ask the children to think about the words that they could say to show their gratitude. Maybe they would want to say a prayer to their Mum/Dad/Auntie/teacher /Headteacher if they choose to.

Ask the children if they think only Christians can pray?

Once you have written it, say it out loud to someone in your home.

How did you feel saying your prayer?

The Lord's Prayer - Can you learn it off by heart?

The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, when they asked him how they should pray.

Most Christians know the prayer by heart in their own language, and it is used today by every Christian tradition, though there are sometimes minor variations in the wording. It has a place in every Anglican act of worship, and forms a pattern for prayer for Christians:

  • We bless God and pray for our world, our communities and our lives to be shaped by God’s will;
  • We pray for daily needs to be met,
  • For forgiveness for wrongdoings, strength to resist temptation and protection from danger.
