WHAT IF EVERY MATERIAL WAS STRETCHY?

This is the second half of our materials unit and this term we will learn to use touch and sight to identify a number of simple properties of materials, and test materials such as paper and fabric to compare their properties.  We will also learn to compare the properties of liquid water with frozen ice with lots of hands on practical opportunities!

This term there is a strong emphasis on working scientifically with the children using their senses to observe closely. The children will be able to design and carry out simple tests and then record their findings in a variety of ways. They will then be learning to use comparative vocabulary to describe their findings, for example, shinier, harder, softer.

The highlight of the term will be investigating the best material to make a slingshot out of and then making our own!  Which material will be best?  Why?  How will we measure and record our results?

Take a look at the video below to learn how to make a sling shot.  Perhaps you could try this investigation at home as well?!
