Writing to Inform

During our writing lessons this term, we will be learning how to write to inform. This will include writing a recount of our WOW event, writing a set of instruction on how to make a jam sandwich and writing a postcard.

Within these types of writing, we will be focusing on:

  • Letter  formation
  • Writing a sentence
  • Saying our ideas before writing them
  • Using a capital letter for a name, place or start of a sentence
  • Using a full stop to demarcate the end of a sentence
  • Using finger spaces between words
  • Use the word 'and' to join words and clauses
  • Using our phonics to spell unknown words

Adjectives will also be introduced to enhance our writing and the use of exclamation marks and question marks will be taught.

A recount is a piece of writing that tells us about an event or an experience. We will be writing a recount on our WOW event.

Recount, past tense, first person, time connectives, chronological order, adjective.

Instructions tell people what to do and how to do it. In this writing unit, the children are making jam sandwiches following instructions they’ve been given. Then they are writing their own set of instructions and recording themselves saying them.

Instructions, order, sentence.
