Looking at Animals

During this module children learn about a variety of familiar and less familiar animals, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will learn to identify and name, look closely at and compare and contrast many different animals. We will also name their body parts, describe their physical features and mimic how they move. The children will learn that animals need to eat in order to be healthy and that they eat lots of different types of foods. The new vocabulary of ‘carnivore’, ‘herbivore’ and ‘omnivore’ will be introduced!

Observation

This week we learnt looked closely at amphibians and reptiles.  We began by learning some of the names of these cold-blooded creatures and looked for similarities and differences between them and other animals.  We then chose our favourite amphibian or reptile to focus on and made careful drawings of the animals.  Finally we used our drawings to create a clay model.
