Vocabulary: geometric, quadrilateral, acute, obtuse, angles, symmetrical |
Children will recap learning from Year 3 about turns and how these relate to angles. They will then learn to identify angles.
Next, we will investigate different types of triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons. Finally, we will find out more about lines of symmetry!
Vocabulary: bar chart, time graph, pictogram, table |
In this unit, the children will learn how to interpret discrete and continuous data from pictograms and use this data to plot their own graphs, including bar charts and time graphs. We will then use our understanding of graphs to solve comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in bar charts, pictograms, tables and other graphs.
Vocabulary: 2-D grid, coordinates, quadrant, axis |
During the position and direction unit, we will begin by looking at the difference between the x-axis and the y-axis. Once we are confident with identifying the coordinates of a point on a 2-D grid, we will move on to describing movements between positions using left/right and up/down descriptions. With the knowledge we will have gained on coordinates, we will then be able to move on to plotting specified points on a 2-D grid to complete a given polygon.
