Reading

We love to read in Year 1 and look forward to our daily story time each day.  The children are now able to join in with reading more and more as their own reading develops too!  Whilst lockdown continues try to enjoy story time together at home.  You could look at our Oxford Owl ebooks where you will find a range of different texts to enjoy!

Once back at school, please remember to read with your child and sign their reading diary every day.  When reading together encourage them to use their sounds to read the words.

All books are changed on FRIDAYS.

In School Reading Rewards!

Each Friday when we change our reading books anyone who has read five times that week earns a ticket that goes into our weekly reading raffle!  During celebration collective worship a winner is chosen and that person receives a certificate and a reading prize!

Teams 1:1 reading sessions

During lockdown we are offering weekly 1:1 reading sessions for your child with a member of staff.  We are really enjoying these sessions with the children reading to us, us reading to the children or us all enjoying a book together!  Head over the remote learning page to book your slot!

Class Fairytales

This term our class fairytale's will be Goldilocks and the three bears, followed by Hansel and Gretel!  We will begin with Goldilocks, using the story as a stimulus for our first writing unit as well as our reading.  After this we move onto Hansel and Gretel. By the end of the term the aim is that the children are able to retell the stories by heart and with expression!

If you are not familiar with the stories you can listen to them here:
