Reading

In Year 6, our reading expectations are that children read 5 times a week. This is because reading is the gateway into understanding the world and also drastically improves standards in writing. We would encourage reading with your children as frequently as possible to develop understanding and create meaningful conversations about reading.

This term we will be reading 'Clockwork' by Phillip Pullman. Clockwork is a fairy tale set in Germany, in a world where clockwork devices can be made so intricately precise that they can, if constructed by a particularly ingenious clockmaker, pass for little boys!

Writing

This term in writing we will be focusing on reports. During this term we will be writing a non-chronological report about Antarctica and the Arctic. We will also be writing a newspaper report about Captain Robert Scott, before writing a chronological report about the voyages that explorers took to the North and South poles.
