Body Pump - Body Health

This term in our science lessons, Mrs Dougill and Year 6 will be looking into the biological side of science again as they move on from exploring the circulatory system, to finding out how to keep our amazing human body healthy. Prophets will be discovering what we can do to make sure we reduce our chances of illness, both physically and mentally, or harming our body. Our body is a fantastic piece of biology which we often take completely for granted, this will be an opportunity for Year 6 to understand how important it is to treat our body properly.

Thursday 8th July

Following our visit from Naomi from the charity ‘We Are With You’ and her talk about what drugs are and the effects they can have on our bodies, we did further research to find what long-term effects common, legal drugs can have on our health. The children then designed and presented a poster which would inform their peers about the risks of these drugs.

Thursday 1st July

Today year 6 had great fun finding and measuring our pulse and investigating how the heart rate (pulse) is affected by exercise.

Thursday 24th June

Today we found out about the work of doctor and scientist James Lind and realised how important our diet can be and how ideas about diet have changed. I think everyone will be eating more oranges, lemons and limes!

Thursday 17th June

Today we researched the nutritional content of five snacks which we eat and considered whether they could be classed as healthy. Some of the children were surprised at what they found out and started to reconsider their snacking choices!

Today we started to think about what being healthy actually means. We looked at new vocabulary and used government guidelines and food packaging to plan a balanced and healthy lunch.
