Reading

We love to read in year 1 and look forward to our daily story time. The children are now able to join in with reading more and more as their own reading develops too!

Each term we will be enjoying a fairy tale and this term our story will be 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff', hopefully you will be hearing lots of 'Who's that trip trapping over my bridge?" as the children learn the story by heart and come home and retell it to you!

Please remember to read with your child and sign their reading diary at each day.  When reading together encourage your child to use their sounds to read the words. 

We will be continuing with our whole school reading reward system so if your child reads five times they will earn a raffle ticket which is entered into our Friday reading raffle to win a prize!
All books are changed on FRIDAYS and your child will  bring home 3 new books each week.  Research shows that reading improves when children re-read the same book so please revisit the stories so that by the end of each week your child is confidently reading the book. 

Please bring your book bag to school each day.
