            Wriggle and Crawl

Grab your coat and pooter – we’re going out and about on a minibeast hunt. Dig a hole and lift up logs to see who’s home. Then set up a minibeast laboratory and observe their every move. Add notes and labels and ask research questions, just like a real entomologist. Learn about bees and worms and butterflies too. Can you make a food chain to show who eats who? Carry out investigations to find out more, like how far a snail travels in a day and how a spider catches its prey. Then get set to learn about camouflage  and design a minibeast that will blend in to your chosen setting! On your belly, legs at the ready, it’s time to wriggle and crawl!

Design Technology - starting to build our camouflaged minibeasts that we have designed!

Our Finished Minibeast!

Can you spot our finished minibeast in their natural habitats?

Finding out about how bees make honey then following instructions to make honey sandwiches! We used our DT skills to use a knife correctly and safely.

Mini-Beast Hunt!

We started off our topic this term with a mini-beast hunt, exploring our school surroundings. We searched high and low, looked under rocks and leaves and carefully collected some examples of all different kinds of amazing creatures! We used our computing skills to photograph and video the mini-beasts we found! Take a look at a few of our amazing pictures!

Mini-beast Adventure!

Where do Snails Live?

We started an investigation this afternoon to find an answer to the question 'Where do snails live?'. We released the snails after handling them very carefully into the allotment. We will go back everyday to see where the snails have travelled to. I wonder where we will find the MOST snails? What do you think?

We found out that snails like to live in dark, damp places and are very good at hiding from predators! We enjoyed using our observational skills to draw cartoon and real life snails! We even used our maths skills to create a bar chart of the amount of snails we found each day.

Design Technology - We used our creative skills to make an ant!

HOME LEARNING

Why not try to find out some information about mini-beasts? Why not create a fact file? Build or paint your favourite creature? We would love to see some of your AMAZING creative ideas in school!
