Bright Lights, Big City

In the Bright Lights, Big City project, your child will take part in a royal garden party and learn about Queen Elizabeth II. They will learn about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, including their location, capital cities and some of their physical and human features. They will have the opportunity to do map work, using compasses and positional and directional language to plan routes around London whilst learning about some of the famous London landmarks. They will learn about other capital cities around the world, including Kuala Lumpur, and compare how they are similar and different to London.

Taxi!

We will also be completing a Design Technology project this term called 'Taxi' This will teach the children all about wheels, axles and chassis and how they work together to make a vehicle move.

Our WOW event to launch our topic! We made sandwiches, iced buns, made Union Jack flags and crowns! We then came together with Gospel class to have a royal garden tea party! And in true British style ... it RAINED... A LOT!

Learning about what a monarch is.

We used atlases to find the location of the countries in the UK. We found their capital cities and discussed that the UK is an island so we looked at the seas that surround us!

We looked at human and physical features of the world around us.

We have been learning about the seasons and the weather in the UK.

We used positional language and the four points of a compass to direct our friends to a famous landmark in London!

We created simple algorithms to make the Beebot travel to famous London landmarks!
