WERE VICTORIAN SCHOOLS HAPPY PLACES TO BE?

What do you think?  Have a look at the picture below.....do you think the children look happy?  I wonder why not?

This term we will be investigating and researching Victorian schools and comparing them to our own school.  By the end of the topic we aim to not only be able to answer our over-arching question above, but also explain how we know!

In the School Days project, we will have the opportunity to take part in a traditional Victorian class and will learn about the differences between schooling in the Victorian era and schooling today. The children will learn about objects found in a Victorian classroom and how they were used.
We will also meet Samuel Wilderspin, an important figure in the development of schooling for young children in the Victorian era, whose ideals are reflected in schooling today.
As this is a history unit there will also be a focus on  describing the passage of time through study of past, present and future tense vocabulary.
