We Are Legends- Community Heroes

We are Legends:

Community Heroes

Week 1- Me and My Family

This week, we have discussed who is in our families and who is important to us. We have drawn pictures and created pieces of writing about our family. We have enjoyed acting out home routines using our role play areas. We have started to learn about what a 'community hero' is and what we might like to be when we are older.

Understanding the World- Science focus

This week, we have been identifying different human body parts, and how we can be similar and different to the people around us.

We drew around each other, and labelled each others legs, arms, fingers ect.

We even compared height and lengths of features with our friends.

Week 2- Farms to Forks

This week, we have been learning about the process of how food is grown on farms, and then is sold in shops for us to buy and eat. We have been visited by a farmer from Willoughby Foods, and he brought his tractor to show us, as well as teach us how they produce the ingredients for pancakes on a farm. We also were visited by ASDA Steve who provided us with lots of different fruits for us to try as we read and followed the story of 'Oliver's Fruit Salad'. World Book Day also gave us a great opportunity to dive deeper into the story of 'Superato'. What great experiences we have shared this week!

Understanding the World- Science focus

This week, we have been learning about fruit and vegetables and how they grow.

We have been donated seeds (leeks and radishes) that we have planted.

We have learnt that seeds need soil, sunlight and water grow. It can take a while for seeds to grow, so we have learnt that we have to wait and be patient.

We can't wait to find out what they look and taste like when they have grown.

Week 3- Police

This week, we have been learning about the important role that Police serve in our community. We learnt about the clothes and equipment that they need, and why they are so important to have.

Our local PCSO's visited us in Noah's Ark class which gave us a great opportunity to ask questions to find out new information. We the put what we learnt to the test using our Police station role-play area. There were some great opportunities to be creative when making police badges and using glitter to mark make.

This week, we have been describing and comparing different hats. We had to think about what materials the different hats were made from, and when we might decide to wear it.

We decided that the 'woolly and fluffy' hats would be good to wear when it's cold.

The cap would be good to wear when it's hot because of the sun.

Week 4- Firefighters

This week, we have been learning about the important role that Firefighters serve in our community. We learnt about the clothes and equipment that they need, and why they are so important to have.

Our local Firefighters visited us in Noah's Ark class which gave us a great opportunity to ask questions to find out new information. We the put what we learnt to the test using our Fire Station role-play area. We enjoyed re-enacting the water spraying out of the hose!

Understanding the World- Science focus

This week, we have been looking at the change in the weather. We sang our seasons song, and made links to why the weather has been changing at this time of year. The children could talk about how the weather is becoming warmer and we are starting to see more sunshine. We used our outdoor weather chart to log the change in the weather for the week.

Week 5- Vets

This week, we have been learning about the importance of caring for animals.

Our week began with an exciting visit from a local animal care group. The children met lots of different animals such as rabbits, hamsters, snakes, a dog and even a tortoise!

After learning about how we care for all of these different animals, the children used our vet role-play area to look after some very poorly animal toys.
