In English, we will be exploring ‘Writing to Inform’ texts including blogs, letters and journalistic writing. 

We will be starting the term by looking at the picture book The Heart and the Bottle by award-winning author Oliver Jeffers. This is an uplifting book which explores the themes of love, loss and hope. 

Once there was a girl whose life was filled with wonder at the world around her…
Then one day something happened that made the girl take her heart and put it in a safe place. However, after that it seemed that the world was emptier than before. But would she know how to get her heart back?

Using the text as a stimulus, children will retell the tale in first person as a blog, focusing on the thoughts and feelings of the main character.
