Invasion

Vocabulary: Normans, Anglo-Saxons, Saxons, conquest, timeline, withdrawal, source, legacy, settlement

In the Invasion project, we will explore the effects of the Roman withdrawal and the chronology and different invasions. We will study the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in detail, examining their reasons for invading, their settlements and their everyday life.

We will also look at monasteries and the Anglo-Saxon legacy. During the topic we will consider how we know about life in this period and investigate and we will learn about Athelstan, an Anglo-Saxon king, and what happened after his death, before ending the project by learning about the Norman invasion of 1066.

Peterborough Cathedral Visit

We had an amazing visit to Peterborough cathedral, taking part in an action-packed day including participating in a role-play about the origins and destruction of the Saxon abbeys, exploring the Cathedral looking for primary and secondary evidence of Saxons and investigating Saxon artefacts.  We also had the opportunity to design and make our own Saxon treasure to bring back to school!

INVASION

We learnt about the invasions and settlements of the early middle ages.  We then built our own timelines, putting key dates in order to show the chronology of the main events.
