D & T

Intent

Within the love of God, At St Nicholas C.E. Primary Academy we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that engage them in our curriculum topics. Our pupils consider their own and others’ needs and desires in order to create effective outcomes. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines to develop wider learners and get children ready for their next step of education.

Implementation

Teaching in DT should be rooted in the design, make and evaluate cycle in all stages of learning. The design process should take the form of real-life contexts to give meaning to the children’s learning. Our pupils have the right to choose from a range of tools to create, make and show their technical knowledge. Children are given the opportunity to evaluate and compare their own products against design criteria and professional products.
