EYFS

 Provision Statement

The provision in EYFS at St Nicholas C of E Primary Academy is centred around enabling every child to shine. By ensuring that “Children are at the centre of all we do”, the weekly/ termly theme allows the children to be immersed in a vocabulary-rich environment where they can explore and make connections which help them to flourish. We will often link our weekly provision to a story, song or theme where they are then given opportunities and experiences to ignite a passion for and a life-long love of learning.

Our outdoor area encourages teamwork through construction, exploration through sand and water, and expression through a range of crafts. The outdoor space is designed to map out key areas, but to also allow the children to have resources organised in a way that allow children to lead some of their curiosity independently.

Our weekly role-play space gives children opportunities to re-enact stories and experiences and to develop that all-important element of their development: communication and language.

The role play space has been transformed into a police station, a veterinarian surgery, the Giant’s castle and even a bakery shop! Our enhanced and continuous provision through our indoor classroom allows children to explore the new learning – along with the new vocabulary - they’re presented with, through small world experiences and creative tables.

We encourage the development of key skills and acquisition of key knowledge through different mediums and themes. This allows the children at St Nicholas C of E Primary Academy to constantly re-visit prior knowledge through lots of exciting new ways and approaches to ensure children can retrieve, consolidate and apply their knowledge, skills and understanding in a range of contexts.

Our provision is heavily tailored towards the development of communication and language. This gives the children lots of opportunities to learn and experience new things and helps to build on their life experiences. By giving children a breadth of experiences through visits, stories, songs, games and imaginative play, we enable children at St Nicholas C of E Primary Academy to flourish in their communication and language, and to further build their bank of vocabulary, meaning they are well placed to succeed in their next phase of learning. We tailor our learning towards the children, their needs and their interests to make sure we help to grow and develop a life-long love of learning where every individual knows how they can let their light shine!
