Writing

Writing to Entertain

This term we will be learning to write to entertain.  This will include learning how to write 1st and 3rd person narratives and also producing our own role-play stories and even a puppet show!

Within these types of writing we will continue to focus on the following key areas:

  • Letter  formation
  • Writing a sentence
  • Saying our ideas before writing them
  • Using a capital letter for a name, place or start of a sentence
  • Using a full stop to demarcate the end of a sentence
  • Using finger spaces between words
  • Use the word 'and' to join words and clauses
  • Using our phonics to spell unknown words
  • Beginning to use the exclamation mark and question mark!
Our writing will be linked with two fairytales, Hansel and Gretel and Goldilocks and the three bears.  Through reading sessions we for the children to develop a good understanding of the stories, before retelling them both orally and in writing!

Handwriting

Letter formation is one of the key learning objectives during year one.  By the end of the year it is expected that all letters are formed correctly.  At school we use the letter rhymes to help the children to remember where to start each letter.  When writing at home it will help to remind your child where to start their letters when writing.
