Welcome toSt Nicholas Church of England Primary Academy

PE

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

▪ develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

▪ are physically active for sustained periods of time

▪ engage in competitive sports and activities

▪ lead healthy, active lives.

At St Nicholas CE Primary Academy, we believe that all pupils should develop physical literacy and possess the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and life long participation and enjoyment in physical activity and sport. The PE Curriculum offers everyone the opportunity to build on their skills whilst participating in a wide variety of sports.

At St Nicholas CE Primary Academy we have a bespoke curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum. All members of staff and external sport coaches promote a love of PE and being active within their PE lessons and break times. They also reinforce the belief that PE and sport is for everyone to enjoy and achieve in.

Our whole school approach includes:

  • A bespoke curriculum that has been designed to enable the children to build on their skills year on year as they progress through the school.
  • A wide variety of sports taught during PE lessons and enjoyed through After-School clubs.
  • Opportunities to take part in competitions and development days in a variety of sports.

The successful approach to PE and sport within our school leads to active, challenging, enjoyable and progressive PE lessons. Alongside the PE lessons, our After-School and lunchtime clubs offer children the chance to try new sports and provide them with the skills and desire to enjoy sport throughout the rest of their lives.

PE and After-School Clubs

Please find the PE and After-School Clubs timetable below. On the days that children have PE, they will need to come to school wearing their PE kits. They will wear them all day so no uniform needs to be brought to school. This is to remove the need for children to get changed at school and to maximise the time we have in our PE lessons.

At St Nicholas we are one team. This is the same during PE and one way that we show this unity and make sure that we are staying safe is by wearing the school PE uniform.

Below you will see the PE timetable which shows the day each year group has PE. This year, PE kits should be left at school during the term for children to change into at school.

By looking at the Long Term Plan below you can see what topics we are currently doing and what will be coming up for each year group.

What is the correct PE Uniform?

By following the link below you will find pictures of use enjoying lots of different sporting opportunities at school. We are really lucky that we have lots of After-School clubs on offer which are run by school staff and sports coaches from Elite Sport. You will also find pictures of our PE lessons and competitions that we take place in here too.
