This project teaches children about simple machines, including wheels, axles, inclined planes, pulleys and levers, exploring how they helped ancient builders to lift and move heavy loads.
The children will be challenged to use their knowledge of simple machines to help ancient Egyptian tomb builders move and lift heavy stones more easily to make the pyramids. They will be encouraged to use their knowledge of simple machines, including wheels and axles, inclined planes, levers and pulleys to build prototype machines to complete the chosen task. They will lean that a prototype is a first example of a machine or product, which is created to see if a design will work. The will then design their machines and then use a range of junk modelling materials to create a prototype. Ask them to test and modify their design as they work.
