Travels with the Snail and the Whale

Reception's Wild Adventures:

Travels with the Snail and the Whale

Week 1

This week, we have started the story 'The Snail and the Whale.'

We have learnt about the key characters, and held predictions on where they might travel. The children in Noah's Ark class wrote character description and some postcards to share where they would like to go. The children learnt about whales and made some fantastic snails.

Week 2

This week, the Snail and the Whale took us to explore the Antarctic.

We have learnt about the cold weather in the Polar regions and the changes that take place with ice and water. We used the story 'Lost and Found' to learn about what animals live there, as well as the story 'Poles Apart'. We learnt that Polar Bears live in the North Pole and penguins live in the South Pole.

Week 3

This week, we travelled to the Rainforest.

We have learnt about the different animals that live in the rainforest, and used descriptive words when writing sentences. Noah's Ark class used different instruments to replicate the sounds of the rainforest, such as the birds, trees rustling and the frequent rain.

Week 4

This week, we have followed the Snail and the Whale under the sea.

We have read the story 'Jellyfish are Disgusting!' and we had a go at following a set of instructions to make jelly. The children did a fantastic job at writing their own set of instructions on how to make jelly, and they especially enjoyed exploring it with their senses.

Week 5

This week, we have followed the Snail and the Whale into the woods

We have read the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. The children did a fantastic job at writing the story, and were especially amazing at acting out the story.

Week 6

This week, we have finished the story of the 'The Snail and the Whale' and decided to become pirates to create our own map. We enjoyed a day dressed as pirates, and even have a special pirate visitor.
