Topic- Ready, Steady, Grow!

Ready, Steady, Grow:
What would you grow?

In the Ready Steady Grow project your child will take part in practical activities to explore where food comes from. They will learn what seeds and plants need to grow and grow a variety of plants. They will explore what constitutes a healthy lifestyle, including eating fruit and vegetables, exercise and teeth brushing. They will find out about life on a farm and about baby animals.

Supporting your child at home

  • Visit your local library and find books about farms to share.
  • Make a shopping list together and go to the shops to buy the food.
  • Grow some quick growing plants or make a cress head.
  • Talk about healthy foods.
  • Share and discuss the Did you know? resource.

Week 1-

Understanding The World – The Natural World

A farm is an area of land, and its buildings used for growing crops and rearing animals.

To begin to identify the origins of some foods.

Food can be from plants such as fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Animals provide meat and also produce food such as milk, eggs and honey.

With support, observe, record and talk about materials and living things.

We use our senses to explore the world.

Learn and sing songs and rhymes as part of a larger group.

Week 2 -

PD - Fine motor skills and Exp A&

Make simple prints using a variety of tools, including print blocks and rollers.

Week 3 -

Exp A&D - Creating with materials

  • Adapt and refine their work as they are constructing and making

 

World - The natural world

  • Name and describe basic features of plants and trees.

    Week 4 -

    Exp A&D - Expressive arts and design

    • Explore artwork by famous artists and talk about their likes and dislikes.
    • An artist is a person who creates artwork.

    • During small group, class and 1:1 discussions, ask questions to understand what has been said

    • Plants need water, sunlight, air and warmth to grow.

    Farms in the past

    World - Past and present 

    Describe some similarities and differences between things in the past and the present.

     

    Animals and their babies

    World - The natural world lesson

    Animal babies are known by different names than adult animals, such as cow and calf or sheep and lamb.

    Week 6 -

    Looking down

    Exp A&D - Creating with materials lesson

    When two colours mix together they make a new colour.

     

    Tractor trouble

    Exp A&D - Expressive arts and design

    Explore, build and play with a range of resources and construction kits with wheels and axles.
