Promoting a Love of Reading

World Book Day 2026

This World Book Day we celebrated with the Dr Seuss text The Places you will go.  We dressed up as something we would like to be when we are older, then used books in our classrooms to visit new places!

Our classes have visited new lands, explored volcanoes, travelled to new countries and enjoyed stories with teachers from other classes.  We also shared breakfast and books at our Bookie Brekkie with our parents which got our World Book Day off to an amazing start!

Judges for the IBC Children's Choice Awards

Our Year 3 and Year 4 classes have been selected to join the judging panel of the IBC Children's Choice Awards!

What are the IBC Children’s Choice Awards?

The IBC Children’s Choice Awards are an exciting shadowing scheme for our IBC Awards, where children act as judges, reading the shortlisted books and voting on their favourites.

The scheme aims to engage children in fun reading activities that mirror the IBC Awards process.

The children have recieved the delivery of the books for the age 6-9 fiction category, and are busy reading the stories as a class.  They will then take place in judging them, choosing the best book.

The National Year of Reading

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a UK-wide campaign designed to inspire more people to make reading a regular part of their lives. Each term we will take part in special events to promote reading in our classroms, in our school and then across the community!

If you're into it, read into it: Go All In.

We are excited to introduce Go All In, the campaign brand for the National Year of Reading: a bold invitation wrapped up in a compelling and contemporary visual identity. 'Go All In' reimagines what reading means today.

Meet our Reader Leaders

These children have worked hard to be the first ever group of 'Reader Leaders' at our school.  After finishing their training today, they are ready to get to work promoting a love of reading across our family!  As well as their whole school responsibility, they have all been assigned a reading buddy from KS1, who they will be reading with each week.

Christmas Book Fair

Our first book fair of the year was a huge success with so many exciting titles to choose from, and at only £3.50 a book, it was a great place to buy stories for now and also to do some Christmas shopping!  Because of the high demand, we also earnt some free texts for the school library too!

Michael Rosen Day

To celebrate Michael Rosen Day,  we joined Michael Rosen for a Poetry Party!  The children loved listening to and joining in with Michaels' performances, and it left us feeling inspired to become poets ourselves.  We spent the rest of the day creating and performing poetry in our classrooms - everything from spaghetti to monsters to cabbage was included!  These poems are going to be turned into poetry books to share.  Each class aso recieved a surprise gift to help them celebrate the day - a Michael Rosen poetry book from Chocolate Cake, to Centrally Heated Knickers - poetry has given everyone "the best day ever!".

World Book Day Selection Panel

Children at our school were invtied to join the World Book Day selection Panel for 2027.  This involved us recieving a special parcel of prospective books, pitches from authors and taking part in activities in order to select the best books to put forward to the panel.   One representative from each class then came to the World Book Day Panel meeting to share the views of the classes across school.  The book winners remain TOP SECRET until Spetember 2026 when the results are announced!

National Poetry Day

This year we celebrated National Poetry Day by holding a poetry recital in each class.  Everyone was invited to share either their favourite poem, learn a new poem or write their own!  Every child then took part in the recital in their classrooms.

Poetry and Popcorn

Our whole school family were invited to join us for our 'Poetry and Popcorn' afternoon.  Families were invited into school to watch the filmed poetry from National Poetry Day whilst enjoying some popcorn!
