This project teaches children about the meaning and benefits of seasonal eating, including food preparation and cooking techniques. We will start by discussing how different foods grow during the different seasons and how this leads us to import fruits and vegetables from other countries. However, we will then explore the impact this has and how we can change what we eat to make the most of seasonal foods.

We will investigate seasonality and sample vegetables that would be in season in the UK in March. Following this, we will be able to taste test a variety of vegetables available to buy in the UK because they have been brought here. Using a food miles calculator we will work out how far our food has travelled and the impact this has on the environment. Next we will design our own healthy soup recipe, before preparing it, cooking it and of course eating it!
