Language and Literacy

Vocabulary:

Peering, glowered, hunched, swivelled.

This term we will be using a poignant, engaging picture book, The Night Shimmy by Gwen Strauss and Anthony Browne, and a contemporary, humorous story, Chatterbox Ben by Adrian Bradbury to explore the themes of communication and relationships.

The Non-fiction week, linked by the theme of communication, looks at formal and informal language by exploring different forms of communication for specific purposes and audiences. The children will be encouraged to develop an awareness of audience and purpose in relation to the fiction and non-fiction texts they are reading and writing.
