We Are Legends

Fairytales

This term, we will be exploring the different traditional tale stories to find out what makes a good hero. Each week, we will be focusing our learning around a book that we read and share together.

Week 1

This week, the children have listened to the story 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children have used puppets and masks to re-tell the story with their peers. It has been great to hear everyone chant "Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Man!' The children have had a role play bakery shop which was filled with REAL bread. It smelt delicious! We have also all enjoyed the Gingerbread Man scented play dough that filled the classroom this week. We have had so much fun!

Week 2

This week, the children have read the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. They used the small world to re-tell the story, and have thought about some amazing describing words for the troll such as mean, grumpy, hungry and green. The children in Noah's Ark class then made some fantastic troll mask. They painted paper plates and used paper shapes to represent the troll's face. The children have also been busy builders, making a new bridge for the goats using stickle bricks, and the outdoor construction resources. What a busy week!

Week 3

This week, we have been learning about the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears.' The children have painted brown bears, explored porridge and read lots of stories about bears. They even helped to measure out ingredients to cook, and then taste some porridge. Many children thought it was "just right!"

Week 4

This week, the children have been learning about the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'.

The children in Noah's Ark class have re-told the story using drama, and they were great at remember what the characters say.

They have been busily building different structures using our outdoor construction area, our role-play building site, and even using sticks found on our walk around the field.

The children also used different materials to collage the three homes from the story. What a busy week we have had!

Week 5

This week, the children in Noah's Ark class have been learning about the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.

The children have planted some cress seeds, and are keen to watch what happens as they grow.

They have also used our role-play castle to re-tell the story. We have had lots of angry Giants shouting "Fee, Fi, Foe, Fum!"

They have used the craft table to create beanstalks in the clouds, and explored play with different beans. I wonder if any of them are magical?

Week 6

This week, the children have been learning about the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

They have created wolf masks, and re-told the story using costumes and props. The children have also been creative, making 'Get well soon' cards for Granny, as well as using pencils and paints to create a picture of our classroom flowers. They have used their fine motor skills to weave ribbon through baskets, and created flowery medicines and potions outside. What a way to end the term!
