In this unit, we will explore the poems 'Goodnight Stroud' by Pie Corbett and 'Last Night, I Saw the City Breathing' by Andrew Fusek Peters which have similar themes, strong imagery, rich vocabulary and the use of powerful personification. At the end of the unit, the children will write their own free verse poem.

Persuasive Writing
Linked to the "cities" theme of the poetry unit, this unit explores the audience and purpose of persuasive writing. The children will write a persuasive presentation which they will present to the rest of the class in the role of residents at a public meeting to discuss plans for building a football stadium.
