Peasants, Princes and Pestilence (Autumn 2)

In Maths, we have been learning about multiplication and division. We can multiply 4 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers using the column method and divide numbers using the bus stop method. Our next step is using long division! Wow!

Still to go, we are going to be learning about reading graphs and tables and working out the area and perimeter of shapes.

We are really enjoying our writing this term and still have lots more we are looking forward to. We have written persuasive letters to King Richard to ask him to stop poll tax for all us peasants. We used a range of different techniques including rhetorical questions, facts and opinions to make our arguments convincing. And... we even had a special visit from King Richard himself (otherwise known as Mr Gormal)! We presented our letters to him and we are pleased to announce he agreed to abolish poll tax. Well done Saints!

As well as persuasive writing, we have been researching myths and legends and identifying key features and characters. We found that myths and legends are passed down through generations. We read Hercules and are now adapting it whilst writing our own myth.

Still to go this term, we are looking at poetry to perform, writing our own poems and performing them!

Hinduism is our learning for R.E this term. So far, we have learnt about the Hindu Gods and Godesses and have been thinking about the forms we take everyday. Do we have different faces everyday such as happiness, kindness, loyalty? We designed our own God based on the different characters we portray on a daily basis.

In addition, we learned about Puja, a Hindu worship. We spoke about what the worship entails. We then wrote a diary entry from the point of view of a Hindu child and how they might feel at the different stages of the worship. As well as this, we have spoken about Karma and how good and bad karma can effect a person. We created an information poster encouraging people to choose good Karma.

We love P.E in Saints! It's one of our favourite times of the week! This term we have been improving our fitness by running laps, doing boxercise and aerobics. We even taught Mrs Harrison and Miss Allen a couple of aerobic moves! We are really beginning to understand the importance of health and fitness and how good eating and exercise can help us have a positive, clear mind for learning.

On Monday's, we have been working with Miss King in P.E learning and choreographing our very own Bollywood dance! We have learnt that Bollywood dance is very different from the dance we may have seen already but it is very fun and challenging. We especially like the dresses they wear!

Marvellous Maps! That is our topic this term for Geography and wow we are learning so much! Who knew so many different types of maps existed? So far, we have studied ordanance survey maps and what each symbol means and why that symbol may be used. We identified the different symbols on a map and then created our very own symbol! Some of our symbols including dance studios, pizza shops and fair grounds! Then, we decided we needed to know which direction we were going in and so we learnt all about compasses and how to read them. We looked at the 8 points on a compass and created a route for our partners to follow. Furthermore, we have have learnt how to read 4 and 6 figure grid references on maps! All of these skills are particulary useful for those children thinking about joining Scouts!

In Topic, we have been learning about life in Medieval Britain. We have learnt about the Black Death and how this wiped out almost half of the population in Britain! We wrote some very emotive diary entries about how it felt to be around during the days of the plague. Some of our responses were:

''It was heartbreaking. Screams surrounded me.''

''Death. Death is everywhere.''

We have been looking at Knights and the social hierachy and how that has changed to life today.

Still to go, we are going to be learning about Medieval banquets and planning our very own!

In Science, we are looking at Living Things. We have been very busy setting up an experiment to clone plants, looking at the work of Jane Goodall and describing the process of Metamorphis.

We have also looked at how much our chicks from last term have grown and we can't believe how fast they are growing!
